ABOUT ME:
i love & live for fashion...and love...and life. i also love Paris!
MY STYLE:
Audrey Hepburn meets Vivienne Westwood meets J.Crew meets Old World couture like Balenciaga (under Cristobal ofcourse), Chanel, bright Lilly Pulitzer colors and muted greys, browns and basic black, downtown meets uptown chic, ladylike rocker = me!
basic black, browns, white, orchid pink (as an accessory, i.e., scarves), some grey, red
black & white, paired with dark indigo [jeans], a splash of bright green, pinks
my flowy pre-Raphaelite hair (!) to my long, toned legs...i have boyish hips and a great smile...
my tummy!
a tight or thick turtleneck because i am a no-neck monstah, and that would make me very self-conscious about my tummy
sheer lipstick, sunscreen, sunglasses if ultra-sunny out, boots if cool, tights [footless or otherwise], good perfume [on me that is...mostly happy, citrus scents or light florals]...
leggings or footless tights, my black balloon-shaped dress [that reminds me of old school Balenciaga) from Paul & Joe Sister, my orchid pashmina scarf, white sunglasses, a lady coat, my Puma boots (comfy and stylish), a great bag [i have yet to find this...i keep using this cheapo camouflage-print tote!], good jeans [still on the lookout!], cute jewellry [am wearing my grandmother's cameo ring to death]...
stretchy long-sleeved black top, stretch b & w striped top, my black cargo skirt, my old Danskin leotard with leggings that I use to layer, some colorful cashmere twinset [red, green, etc.], cowl-neck black sweater [slightly fitted]
skincare, a winter coat, jeans, good boots, cashmere sweaters...and Creed's Spring Flower scent [it's to die for!]...and a pair of Roger Vivier's Pilgrim buckled shoes in bright fuschia or silver or Isaac's version in faux animal print!
handbags and watches [i know i'll lose them!], lipstick, trendy shoes
dressing for ambivalent events like "business casual" or semi-formal!
2 hours or more for make-up, prep time and a night out less for work
trendy "tent" dresses for summer in lightweight cottons, handbags, classic Converse sneakers [in white, red and black!], stretchy jeans, colorful tights for layering in the winter, rhinestone hair barrettes [for growing out bangs stylishly :], wedge-heeled boots, ballet flats, white sunglasses....
pink [in the lilac/family to true pinks to shocking pink]
myself or attempting to be appropriate for the occasion, and sometimes a man
pre-Raphaelite paintings because the women in it look so ethereal, "The Kiss" by Doisneau [I just found out it was all "staged" but it seems so romantic!], paintings by the Fauvists [I love the shocking colors!], and the Impressionists, Andy Warhol's fashion drawings and lithographs --the Pop Art colors and vivid hues...
Audrey Hepburn [especially in "Breakfast at Tiffanys'], Edie Sedgwick, rock star muses like Jane Birkin, my grandmother [she wore Pucci dresses and had wild red hair like Endora from "Bewitched" :], Coco Chanel, Frenchwomen for their effortless style, Catherine Deneuve in "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg", Emmanuelle Beart in "Nelly et Monsieur Arnaud", models like Daria Werbowy, rocker chicks like Cat Power, Chloe Sevigny, Jennifer Connelly (now), Vivienne Westwood (then), Jackie Kennedy, Helena Christensen, Madame Gres and currently the whole `70s ethos [flowy felt hats, wedge heels, wide-legged pants and tertiary color palettes...]
I think it might have been Brooke Shields for her ethereal, precociousness and dark brows and the long, lean jeans look, which was both romantic and tough/urbane, but I yearn for the clean, spare, ladylike chic of Audrey Hepburn in her later years which just spells couture to me in a very individualized way.
Thank God I've lived to see another day! What shall I do today?
a severe, very couture look, a micro-mini, ornate accessories layered on like vintage Chanel, or a brimmed felt hat, very 70s that I can wear nonchalantly walking down the street, an austere ladylike coat with full-on real or faux designer accessories [handbag, blah blah blah...] and age-appropriate shoes [uhmm...i ticked 20-ish because i look it but i'm actually...er...that is, I remember the 70s...so i'm more xxty-ish..] deep, dark make-up, or skinny jeans and high heels...
definitely an iconoclast: i try not to follow trends even though i'm quite influenced by it, but instead incorporate it into my own look, i sometimes flout weather conditions and wear summery pieces in the fall and am never age-appropriate...i don't dress my age, which is getting to be a problem because i may miss out on a great opportunity to finally "dress my age!". I've been told I'm "groovy"..in airport lounges, surprise dinners with new and old friends, hip, avant-garde or "hot" but I do so long to look more ladylike, Audrey Hepburn-ish with a touch of the rebel.
I'm feminine, I'm sweet, I'm me, but sometimes I like to shake things up and rock it out a bit...
She had her own brand of je ne sais quoi!
