"Good Morning America"
Thursday gave creed to that saying “no rest for the weary.” After finishing the collection show Wednesday we had to start work on the show we had committed to tape for “Good Morning America” the following morning. It was such an insane few days. I found out that Amanda, a young lady who works in my office, had to stay overnight in my studio to oversee the lighting, which took place starting at midnight. Amanda’s day ended at nine thirty Thursday after the GMA taping concluded. It was a wonderful morning though. Nothing could have prepared me for the emotional payoff of Robin Roberts’ heroic act on the runway. We had planned for her to be the last to walk in the collection in my favorite red sequin dress and capelette and she had mentioned in passing that she was thinking of walking without her wig, which I didn’t suspect she’d actually have the gall to do. But she did it. I thought it was one of the bravest things I’ve ever seen. I thought for her to confront her worst nightmare, for her to confront the thing most women are terrified of, to do with their cancer, for her to make a showing of her beautiful baldness was larger than life. Approaching her illness with courage and humor Robin was setting a precedent for women suffering from cancer. In the end, not only was it visually striking, it was a great message to the world about bravery.
