How to Have StyleNovember 01, 2007 | 10:01PM

This morning I woke up thinking that people look good. Yesterday I had the Spring preview of my Target collection and the editors from all the magazines came by to see the collection and they all looked great. The thing I love about these editor events is I get to see what other people are doing and it’s usually eye opening. There was even a moment of jealousy. A young editor was wearing a pair of flats that caught my eye, a pair of black suede lowcut flats with a strange ankle-mary-jane-strap closure and huge, (what looked like) mother-of-pearl ornament. I stared and stared until she said; “Sigerson Morrison.” I was jealous for about three minutes that I hadn’t designed those shoes myself.

So my theory is that people look great. Not just fashion editors. I walk the street and notice people looking wonderful. I like the way slightly overweight people look right now. I think that too-skinny thing is over. All the women I see who fill out their clothes look sexier than the ones who look like they need a meal. Men too. The cutest guys do not have six-packs. It could be that one doesn’t notice the too-skinny ones when they’re wearing layers of sweaters and jackets, maybe everyone looks slightly bulkier. Maybe people just look better in Autumn months when there’s less skin and fewer flip-flop disasters walking the streets. Whatever the reason, people look good. Which brings me to my point about this book I’m working frantically on called “How To Have Style.” I know I can help people look better but the only way to do that is to prove to them that they look fine already. Take the pressure off so people can have fun with the subject. One thing: the book is not a makeover book. Even though there are a number of women I’m making over in order to demonstrate these ideas about how to look better. But please don’t misunderstand. Just cause I’m reaching out with this book about how to look better, doesn’t mean you don’t already look wonderful. I just think everything, no matter how great, can be improved upon. (Also I’m trying to be as bitchy as possible in the process, cause it seems like bitchy style-gurus sell books.)
