Behind the Scenes at Spring 2010...
My Spring 2010 collection went down the runway last Thursday at the Tent at Bryant Park…The collection was inspired by 1950’s Fred Astaire films, so the runway was set up with klieg lights and a wind machine to look like an old movie lot. Here’s the runway before any of the action:

The show was set to an original composition written and performed by The Bad Plus. They did the music for my Fall 2009 show as well. Here are the guys warming up:

While the collection is done at this point, there is still a lot of work to be done right up to the show, the models were set to walk four different paths on the runway so here is one doing a run-through:

Since the show was called “Astaire Case or Obstacle Course,” another sort of genius element on the runway was a rain curtain. We had a tech-guy actor-type escorting the girls under the “rain” with an umbrella…that definitely required some rehearsal…

This is a good shot of the calm before the storm — the seating cards are all put out based on the seating chart:

Meanwhile, backstage the clothes arrive and need to be unpacked according to model and then steamed:

And right next to that is the hair and makeup area. As the models start to arrive things start getting a little bit more chaotic and things backstage get busy:

After we do a walk-through with the girls, and hair and makeup is being completed, I give some backstage interviews before everyone starts to arrive in the front of house.

Here is the PR team and a number of helpers who will be seating and directing guests, awaiting their next move:

Finally, after much preparation, everyone arrives and we get the girls dressed in the various looks and the lights go down and the music starts. It’s really the best, most exciting feeling! Here’s one of the girls, doesn’t she look chic?

And here is our rain curtain in full effect during the show! It was so marvelous…and definitely made the show memorable…

We had the models really facing every kind of obstacle…here comes one down a set of stairs:

And as if that wasn’t all enough, to make the show really fabulous, the final model was driven out in a golf cart and began the finale with the others trailing behind:
Here is one last shot of the finale:

After the show there is another sort of giant mob scene backstage. People come back for photos and interviews, here you can see how packed the whole place gets:

So that is your backstage glimpse into my show during NY Fashion Week. It is always so much fun, especially this show with all the jazzy extras that set it apart from so many other shows I’ve done. I hope most of you got the chance to watch the show live as we streamed it online…if not, you can watch it here.
I hope you are as excited for Spring 2010 as I am…and now stay tuned for the launch of my QVC line!!
xxx,
Isaac
